Released from prison after serving fourteen years, ex-IRA volunteer Danny Flynn returns to Belfast to revive his career as a boxer just when a ceasefire is about to be declared. He attempts to reopen a non-sectarian boxing club in his neighbourhood and reconnects with his old childhood sweetheart Maggie, now married to his best friend, who is still in prison for his IRA links. But the seemingly inescapable Troubles continue to threaten his hopes for a better life.
