Synopsis

In Ireland, up to and beyond the Sixties, young women ‘fallen from grace’ were locked up in the Magdalene Asylums, lager-laundries run by the Catholic Church. Based on true stories, the film reconstructs the tragic experience of four of them, on the eve of the emancipation of women. Winner of the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival 2002
